Progressive Dems have to realize that the US population leans center right & our last election proved that. You can’t make changes if you can’t win elections. Ppl WANT immigration & border security, lower taxes, strong economy, less crime. Dems need to run on those issues.
Ppl also want term limits for Congress, campaign finance reform, no stock trading for Congress, reproductive rights, affordable healthcare & well paying jobs. Dems need to start highlighting the issues that Americans care about and stop letting Repubs make everything about Dems being too “woke”
You mean someone like Biden? I didn’t care that he couldn’t express himself well to the public anymore, he ran a good government that wasn’t out to damage citizens. Trump is an insane hater.
You must better educate your people about politics. Many of your people in U.S never see or meet the politician they are voting for. Given the opportunity, even in a town hall, it will help to decide if that person is whom you believe them to be. Thats the difference. Be more forthcoming as leaders
Not a Doug Ford supporter but i think he did his best during COVID & he was just re elected. The biggest difference (in my opinion) b/w far right & far left in both the US & Canada: the far left fight for inclusion & acceptance for everyone & the far right fight to discriminate & isolate.
This article under-estimates the trump effect in boosting Carney to victory. Also most Canadians want stronger gun control, those laws did not hurt Trudeau.
It was a lot more than “the Trump effect”
We have a different set of shared values in Canada.
Trump only reminded us of them and how important they really are to us to keep.
Until the guy that not only lost the election to Carney but also lost his seat in his own riding is allowed to take over another riding if the MP in that riding gives his seat up. There will be a by-election and if that riding votes yes to Poilievre he's back into the HoC poisoning everything again.
This is a bad take missing a lot of context. It’s a totally different country with a totally different electorate. The most qualified center-left candidate just ran and lost. Canada was also voting against Trump as outside neighbors with their sovereignty on the line. US cons faced no such risk.
Yes. I am a Canadian and without Trump’s threats to annex Canada Poilievre would likely be PM today. It was the result of seeing in real time the destruction of democracy and the threat of war that united Canada. We saw through the veil.
Not to mention we barely squeaked it out. Carney has a minority government which means in order to pass anything he will be rely mg on other parties (ours is not a two party system) to make that happen. The Cons are the official opposition still.
And I’m glad you did. More need to stand up to him since our elected politicians won’t. Hopefully soon we can actually put him in check and start trying to rebuild relationships with our allies like you all again.
I am so devastated for your country. I sincerely hope that once we are through to the other side it presents the opportunity to build something greater, something that provides for everyone instead of just the few.
It really just comes down to an education issue imo. Cons played a decades long game disabling our education system and then cashed in now. I don’t know how you overcome 30% of the electorate happily voting against their own interests simply to “own the libs” opposition.
I’ve started reading on cults and deprogramming tbh. It’s the only logical thing I can think of to do. We need to find a way to decrease the harm done to a large number of people.

Mark Carney may not have been successful in the US.
And weird how Trump’s advanced years isn’t an issue…
