I switched to Libre a month ago as well, for the same reason. I don't use it often but I have had no problems so far. Microsoft can take a hike.

Yes, there are ways of switching to non-AI, slightly cheaper MS Office but... they raised the price and switched me to AI without my permission once, what is to stop them from doing it again. I sent them an explanation of why I canceled and downloaded LibreOffice instead.

I am not using their Word alternative at an advanced level, just basic typing, formatting and spellcheck. I think there would be more of a learning curve for their Excel.

Anyway, this, along with VLC, is the best of old school generous nerd culture in a world of paywalls and subscriptions.

Late to this but if anyone comes across it and is curious: learning curve switching from Excel to Calc is steep, but worth it. When you get deep into the weeds, Writer is about as good as its office counterpart. Calc is better than its counterpart. Imho.

For advanced use, LO Writer is better than MS Word in most regards. Details are a bit different. It's much stronger on styles, I advise you to get even further into those than you probably are.

It's actually not bad. A couple of weird things like repeating the previous command is control-shift-y instead of just control-y, and there's no control-r for fill right, but other than that it's very similar.

I've been using LibreOffice since everyone defected from OpenOffice. It has always been a great set of applications. Microsoft hasn't seen any of my money in more than 15 years.
