You're point on Democrats being "out of touch" is spot on. Democrats have effectively abandoned areas of Texas. There's not effective outreach, not boots on the ground. Work really has to be done with Democrats working to meet people in their communities and understand their concerns/ explain policy

I agree with the point about Dems. At the grass roots level where the Dems lobbied on working class issues, there was a major discrepancy with the national vote. The moral high ground “they go low, we go hi” taken by the Dems lost them alignment with the working base.

We need day-care, and elder care. Giving the working class $25,000 so they can buy their first home shouldn’t be a negative issue.
I dropped out of college because the Pell grant vanished. College should be affordable

From where I sit, it seems more likely that regular, working class folks decided to move into the bubble of disinformation. Dems message should have resonated with these folks. Instead, they seem to have opted for the lies from Trump and his ilk. They were duped, but don't realize it yet.

The tea party surge was simply Republicans not knowing what they wanted. As soon as they realized smaller government wasn't going to give them free things or "own the libs" they discarded the entire concept. MAGA isn't evolved from the tea party -- it's the thing they were looking for all along.

That anger existed well before the Tea Party. The Tea Party was another movement capitalizing on that post-recession anger, but for reasons I mentioned above, it didn't stick.
