Saying "planes didn't crash when this guy was in charge" may have been a hyperbolic statement, but there was quite a bit of truth to it. It hardly counts as a lie.
Fewer planes crashed when knowledgeable, competent people ran things. I don't know what's false or controversial about that.
the recent aircraft incidents that people attributed to trump had nothing to do with him specifically up to this point; hate to even seem defensive of trump but we can't warp reality and facts to justify emotional rage about things that are actually happening because it weakens the entire argument
if anything they're indicative of more long terms trends, for example air traffic accidents dropped right after trump was elected the first time, did he somehow magically make them stop then? no, it just was a continuation of long term trends
another thing, air traffic controllers have been severely understaffed even under democratic control, blaming trump for everything means you let your own party get away with being sloppy because they can just distract you with trump
