The thing that run govt like a business folks miss is that it's not a business. It's a service, we pay for it with taxes. Govt doesn't need to make a profit it needs to ensure that it delivers essential services to the citizens.

Their stated desire through Project 2025 is for the feds to still have lead responsibility for hurricane and other multi state disasters and push fires and floods onto state coffers. Which of course largely benefits red states and screws blue states. Making it imperative to end blue “donor” states.

California is a doner state. We pay in more than we use and prop up red states. California only owns 3%of its forest lands. Until this latest round of fires in residential areas, the fires were in forests not owned by California. Federal forests are federal responsibility.
