What a great show Space 1999 was. The Six Million Dollar Man, Blake's 7, Logan's Run and Doctor Who were all part of my growing up as a young lad in the 70's.
All classic Sci-Fi for me.
I was told that the original broadcast order of SPACE 1999 was a bit wonky and created a few continuity issues, so I'm going to have a go at watching it in Production Order, which is this, if you fancy following along... https://www.itv.com/watch/space-1999/SPACE1999/
Right then, 02: Matter Of Life And Death - now right away I went "Aha!" cos I thought this was dovetailing nicely into the end of ep1 with the Alphans heading toward planet 'Meta', but this is them encountering planet 'Terra Nova' - if Meta pops up in the broadcast ep 2 I'll feel like a jackass 😆
Yeah so after the almost hard-SF/2001:ASO tone of the first episode that felt closer to the pseudo-Star Trek vibe I remembered (with a dash of SOLARIS)
Opening doors with that all-purpose remote seems a pain.
If you close your eyes Barry Gray's music make you imagine the action as puppets...
I love the Eagle precisely for its clunkiness, its space truckness. Long before I ever got to actually see the show, I had that toy. I loved that goddamn thing
I started watching it last year but after the first episode(which I wish had told us more about what all this did to Earth, which is to say it would have destroyed it basically, which is touched on) it started seeming so Discount Star Trek.
The fact no one seems traumatized by this event bothered me, probably resulting from being used to stuff like BSG version 2. And why do their supplies never run out? How do they keep staying so clean?
There seemed so much potential they were not pursuing.
Yeah if it was remade I'd really want them to dig into that sort of thing, (I was furious that Star Trek Voyager set up but immediately abandoned all that sort of drama too) though I'm not sure the premise of piloting a rogue moon would stand up to much scrutiny.

How's this for a lovely shot of an Eagle?
