Don’t get me wrong I’m not thrilled with Trump coming back, but we forget that presidents don’t have as much power as we think they do. The government is very complex and there is way more to it than just the president.
Bro come on. It's legal to deploy the military to use lethal force against protestors, the SCOTUS said that everything the POTUS does is legal, and the cops are killing more people than they ever have before. You're not going to win by following the rules the bad guys wrote.
In the end, the law is just an instrument of those in power to enforce their will, humanity and morality are not even needed in the creation of those laws.
And sadly those in power right now are conservative... Fascist... Lacking any shred of compassion and understanding whatsoever
We have pretty straightforward laws about taking classified information, obstructing the FBI, and conspiring against our election, but none of those now apply because he is president and we made up an arbitrary rule about not prosecuting presidents.
Laws are not magic spells. They don't take effect when cast by the pure hearted. They have to be enforced by the courts and by the police power of the state, neither of which are inclined, as we see, to do anything resembling enforcement.
The lesson of his first term should have been that rules only matter if those tasked with enforcing them can be bothered to do so and they've spent the last four years undermining everyone who did or might try to hold them accountable.
The Government he now near-unilaterally has under his control can amend, change, appeal, repeal them as it suits his interests and whims. That's what this Country allowed to happen.
When you have the kind of power he’s gonna have (control of SCOTUS, senate, house) with a powerless opposition you don’t even need violence to change laws and constitution to legally create the condition for a dictatorship.
With the executive power over the military and effective immunity for actions in office, the only thing missing is WILL.
If Trump wants a 2nd turn, he can not recognize the 28 election and just ... Keep being in office and rule via executive orders?
Who is gonna stop that? How?
Will it rip up the fabric, make states secceed and cause damage to the US more than all previous wars combined?
Of course. But the really only thing between Trump and an oligarchical dictatorship is will to do it.
Laws exist but trump made it so that the president can't be found guilty for breaking laws if they are doing something as president. So the laws are right out the window. When they argued it the question "can the president kill political opponents?" And they said YES. The laws mean nothing now.
People are gonna start dissapearing, getting shot at and hanged. Your are gonna forget many rights with the deaths of those people and that will tip the scales further.
You say it never would happen until its too late. You are the frog on boiling water.
The issue is they've effectively voided the constitution before. Anyone remember the portland van abductions? We fully agree with your points, though. The new Trump Admin must be held to the highest standard of the law.
There are LOTS & LOTS of laws that should’ve put him in prison for the rest of his life already. Yet here we are & SCOTUS has given him absolute immunity.
Yeah, I was about to say, who's going to arrest him? We already know Congress won't convict him, they've already had two opportunities and failed both times.
Content creators need to begin coalitions to protect and move vulnerable people. Our institutions have failed us, Hank. Hope alone isn’t going to save people from unabated militaristic force.
With all due respect, the constitution doesn't mean a thing if the Supreme Court does not believe in it, and this current Supreme Court does not seem interested in upholding democracy or the rule of law (see Trump v. United States).
So long as the President is willing to pardon crimes, and congress will not impeach him (and the DoJ is willing to preemptively dismiss his cases), and SCOTUS invent things, I'm not sure what a piece of paper is gonna do
That's the wrong question.
What are we going to do to stop it? That's what you need to ask. If you've ever wondered what you'd do if you were in 1930s Germany, you're about to find out.

SCOTUS decides what the laws mean and who they apply to and they've already decided that no laws apply to the president.
What possible non-violent recourse do you reckon we have?
I'm all ears, truthfully.
I would love to be shown a non-violent solution to this problem
And sadly those in power right now are conservative... Fascist... Lacking any shred of compassion and understanding whatsoever
But the extent to which he got unpleasantly close last time does not give me much hope, and I don't see what regular citizens can do about it.
And he won't make the mistake of relying on people who prioritize country over party in his cabinet this time.
What law do you imagine is going to stop them?
With Maga in control of senate, I'm afraid you are wrong. They will sieze all the power they , they will do it quickly and brutally.
Look how bad it's gotten.

(results may vary. some faiths may not apply. use as directed. not available in all states)

Try again?

Now you could argue they didn't actually know the details because, they didn't. If you are reading this, you do. But they didn't.
But that media problem isn't going anywhere any time soon.
