the thing that scares me nowadays about booting up a lot of my retro stuff is the PSUs. Any recommendations on where to source new ones? (speccy onwards really).
I know what you mean. I don’t, have any specific recommendations, sorry. Tend to use the original power supplies, though check them on a regular basis.
Speaking of such things, is there a resource for software/hardware/methods used to diagnose and check C64 hardware? I’ve fixed up some old Macs before but have my first C64 on my bench at the moment.
Just knowing what the voltages and traces should be on an ideal C64 is a gamechanger. It was the first time I'd fixed one, and it helped me isolate the issue pretty quickly. I also use a TL866ii+ EPROM programmer to test logic chips and the PLA, and a cheap RAM tester for the RAM chips.
I’ve done the sinful thing of shuffling my CPC drive into a Speccy +3, and putting a Gotek in its place (I don’t think anything else in the 6128 needs 12v so that can be left disconnected?)

But if I access the floppy drive with it connected to an MP2 modulator 12v line, it trips the whole house.😬
Do the same using the monitor's 12v out, nothing.
So either the 6128 is faulty, or the monitor *and* MP2 are. 🤷
