Watching the penalty incident back, none of the Brighton players even appealed as Pedro went down. It's just so... weird. Can anyone recall a similar incident?

I’m old enough to remember when I think it was Merino was punched in the head by the goalkeeper, wonder how many people thought that wasn’t a penalty, but this was….
The way it gets reported on is deliberately infuriating! it’s bullshit that we get trolled by the pgmol, the epl and sky on an almost weekly basis. I hate how much I spend on this BS
We dropped points to Brentford because they “forgot” to draw the lines. “No way they missed it” assumes a baseline competence that is frankly unfounded.
Doesn't matter if he's late, as long as he gets a touch of the ball. Goalkeepers go in late all the time but as long as they get the ball (sometimes not even that), they don't concede a penalty.
So you're happy if your team concedes a penalty this way? If not, then tribalism is what PGMOL relies on
Incorrect interpretation. A touch does not mean all following actions are allowed. Getting the ball first but following through with the rest of the body in a careless and or reckless manner or using excessive force does make the tackle illegal.
Sigh, intent has nothing to do with it either, but wouldn’t want the rules of the game to get in the way of your narrative. I’d agree it’s applied inconsistently.
Also, it's a 50/50 clash of heads as both going for the same ball. These are never given as penalties. All 3 hosts of MotD agreed it wasn't a penalty and that they've never seen one given for something that happens 20 times every matchday.
Saliba's intent is obviously to contest the ball, not to headbutt Pedro, so it's the same scenario as I've described above with the GK punch or last ditch tackles, and those are never, ever given as penalties if the defending player touches the ball first.
VAR probably didn't overturn it because it was not a clear and obvious error, as it would have been hard for the ref to spot the Saliba touch in realtime. But this is one of the major flaws with VAR - it should overturn all errors, not just those subjectively deemed "clear and obvious"
If this is what clear and obvious means then it’s bonkers. Surely the POINT of VAR should be to help spot things that a ref can’t be expected to see. It’s about getting the right result not reviewing the refs performance.
This comes down to the culture of protecting referees even if they make a mistake. VAR as the name suggests should be assisting the referee to make decisions, including ones they can't make in realtime, not to find ways to justify their errors by subjectively calling it not "clear and obvious".
tbf a bunch of non-referees also moaned a lot about decisions being taken away from the field or stuff like that. this is the end result, a VAR with no bite.

Don't question things just believe the officials.
If that was a GK coming out to punch the ball and touching it just before clattering the attacker, not a penalty.
Or a defender with a last ditch tackle that barely touches the ball first but takes out the attacker, also never a penalty.
So you're happy if your team concedes a penalty this way? If not, then tribalism is what PGMOL relies on
Hope you'll be happy and have no complaints the next time your team gets penalised for 50/50 balls in which the defender touches the ball first.
So you're saying if the GK punches the ball first but the fist follows through & accidentally punches the attacker, it's a penalty?
So many PGMOL apologists here ...

See attached where Romero touched the ball first, but follows through…could argue similar and also red?
