I was in suburban Kansas City last summer talking to a very low information voter type who is a regular watcher of YouTube gamer streams, an apolitical guy whose algorithm fed him into the right wing maw, you know? The things he believed about New York were just completely untethered from anything.

I talked about my experience actually living here and his response was basically “I don’t know, Tim Pool was saying…”. Impossible to engage with.

I’m not sure if Trump posted this because he believes it for similar reasons, or if he’s trying to create that reality in the minds of others. Who knows.

But it’s just going to be like this, because none of the audience for this stuff has either the desire or ability to figure out whether it’s true. The fearfulness is addictive. There is no counteracting with this with the right Compelling Message. No easy ways out.
