Pro rates for fiction is around $.08 per word. We budgeted for 60k words. (We're also including poetry!)

(NOTE: We are *not* accepting stories about W*ndigos or skinwalkers, out of respect for Indigenous and First Nation peoples.)

Part of the budget for #TheDeerIsMessedUP is also aimed to pay the editors a stipend for their time plus we have also budgeted in costs for proofreading (a skilled job!) — and are extremely hyped to have @gothgreenwitch.bsky.social on board to proofread. :D

There's also the usual taxes, fees, and costs associated with running a Kickstarter; a good portion is also earmarked for production. We want these books to be GORGEOUS, and so I intend to pay our interior design and layout folks appropriately.
