if you suspect that you're autistic but don't have a formal diagnosis, keep it that way. just call yourself autistic if you need to, doctors be damned. having a formal autism diagnosis is not currently safe for americans

I was really excited to finally get diagnosed last year and the dr asked me if I wanted to have it on my record. I enthusiastically said yes cause I was happy to finally have an answer. Now I regret it.😭

and without knowing what's going to happen politically in canada this month, I'd say it's not safe here either. if you really think you're autistic you probably are, who cares what a doctor says. find community elsewhere about it. you're not "stealing valor" or some shit by self diagnosing

my psych asked me if I wanted to do full autism testing because I scored really high on the autism sections of the adhd tests. I have an autistic parent, that isn't shocking. I said no. because fuck that

There are currently eight US states that put diagnosed Autistics on registries. I don't think anyone should get an autism diagnosis in those states especially unless they have no other choice.

now that I have a much better understanding of autism, I think a lot more of the population is autistic than most realize and it is literally an impossible goal to not have autistic people in society, like, autistic afabs (which there are many) go without being diagnosed most of the time
