Don't know if anyone noticed, but NIH isn't giving out grants like it once did. I don't know of many PIs who have enough budget to spend on publications at this point.

The page charges also rocket up once going over 8 pages (at least used to). I once spoke with someone who had an 18 page paper (mostly due to huge gel pictures), a year of consumables budget gone. I said "supplemen"? Answer: the PDRA was so proud of them...
