I remember a long time ago when flying felt so special and fun. Now I avoid it as much as possible. It’s incredible how much airlines have fucked up the experience that they claim they’re trying to improve.

When it goes well I still find the flying experience to be magical. It is just much less common that i have that joy now, even with flying just as much as ever.

And when it goes wrong these days the odds are much higher it *really* goes wrong.

Listened to this week's pod on this. On the buying in to a refundable ticket thing - Delta had been offering this in practice since everything stopped being automatically refundable at the end of the pandemic. Wasn't part of a named product, but they have been offering the upsell to me all the time.

Yeah. And formalizing it is different than offering it.

I bet they still try to do the upsell at the end. Some people (me, probably) are going to be more receptive when it's time to actually fork over and make the purchase, versus when I'm starting shopping around.

Isn’t this just part of their broader plan to integrate a “Delta One basic” product? I see this as just the start of it, trying to gauge its “basic” marketing with other cabins before they move ahead

They talked about it in November’s investor day
