5 years ago I had such immense back pain they tried frying my nerve endings with radio waves. It didn't work. Still in pain. Dr said "Well good luck, want to be on oxy forever?"
Whatever you do, don't twist! Don't reach behind you in the car, don't turn to lift that box without moving your feet, don't reach around in your seat to grab that bag behind the chair!
Crunches are not bad! Your belly muscles are also supportiv for your lowerback.
But yeah If you already have problems some other execercisses are better like leg raises.
It is the dumbest thing in the world that a throwaway gym sequence towards the end of the first few eps into the How Many Dumbbells Can You Lift anime ended up being life changing as far as Dragon Flags (equipment-less version) existing went for me, but it is absolutely the case. lol
Not strictly vs the sinister Sit Ups, but for how both were "taught" in schools in the critical formative years? Absolutely only briefly worth it until you leave them behind for better. Dragon Flags/Weighted Leans/Hanging Raises are where the true, meaningful action is.

Anyways thats when I started taking edibles >_>
Strength, not vanity.
But yeah If you already have problems some other execercisses are better like leg raises.
However, after a few minutes of sitting then standing ? I shuffle struggling to walk and it's becoming a real concern that needs looked at
(Actually over 50 though)
