Design aesthetic moved toward “tasteful minimalism” in the late 2000s. I actually believe that Apple is to blame. Great ads with clean packaging ever since the iPod era. But now everything is so boring

The main reason I would assume is that the cost for developing visualizers (as little as those may be) is too existent for the common use case scenario of music players: hear music in the background

Which is unfortunate because in 2025 with OLED TVs visualizers have a good case for themselves
