Luckily we dont need to go such extremes: we just need to elect a government that will declare a Republic (ok- the legislation may take a bit of time). One political party has that in its policies and quadrupled its representatives in parliament at the last election. Vote to abolish the Monarchy!

The abolishment of the monarchy should only be decided by a referendum. This would ensure democratic legitimacy for such a significant change. Crown estates could transfer to public ownership, with funds redirected to healthcare, education, & housing, while preserving royal charities & history.

As history goes- Under the strict Puritan rule of the Commonwealth, life in England became bleak. Things like theater and festivals, which had been a big part of people’s lives, were banned. Unsurprisingly, many grew tired of the restrictions and longed for the monarchy’s return. 👑

Charles’ fate was almost inevitable. His refusal to compromise and belief in divine right clashed too strongly with Parliament’s growing power. That said, with better diplomacy, he might have delayed or even avoided execution.

Agreed—his belief in divine right left little room for negotiation, and Parliament wasn’t backing down. Still, a more skilled diplomat might have bought time or found a middle ground. Do you think the monarchy would’ve survived without his execution?

It’s hard to say, but without his execution, the monarchy might have survived in a diminished form. His death symbolised the rejection of absolute rule and set the stage for constitutional monarchy later. 👑
