why is this people’s reaction to someone rightfully voicing that they wouldn’t want to go on amazon prime, which has used its money for so many bad things for people in its country, to watch indie animation?
does amazon prime and indie animation NOT seem like water and oil to anyone else?
yeah, i noticed. so again, WHY is that your reaction to someone rightfully voicing that they wouldn’t want to watch a show on a platform that uses its money for evil shit? at least on youtube, it’s easier to just support them directly
The person is clearly upset for having to pay to watch something. At no point did they say that they were upset with the morality of watching the show on Amazon.
No actually! I think it’s a good thing if a locked down storefront brings more traffic up an independent project. Think of it like a mall opening a mom and pop shop
Kind of hard to claim moral superiority in using YouTube/Google as if they're somehow the more morally just multinational corporations. They're just as shiftless a Amazon in many aspects.
Plus this is entirely optional aswell so they can opt out of Prime if they so choose.
i didn’t say youtube is too much better morally, i’ve been saying it’s easier to support glitch directly on youtube. because their links to merch, patreon or passive donations are under the video
Yeah okay but that seemingly hasn't changed. People can still support Glitch directly. Amazon in this case is just acting as a distributor in bringing MD to a more mainstream audience.
i know it’s the distributor, just like netflix for tadc. what i’m saying is, when receive money from a corp that does evil shit and some people on the creative team have worked with people that also hold those opinions, would it not be beneficial to say you’re against those things as a company?
Sure but this is David v. Goliath & we need to pick our battles. Burning too many bridges just isolates us out of the wider conversation altogether. Building a more broad (positive) audience does a much better job in getting more people on our side than some rigid ideological gatekeeping.
Exactly this^
If someone was truly a fan of the show, they would be happy at the show being successful enough to get picked up for distribution by Amazon or any other big media corp.

especially in creative spaces. you must not be too well versed on this or something
anyway, people WERE talking about it. but netflix isn’t the big conglomerate that is amazon, friend
