People, yes.
People who have a different view and you might have to debate maybe heated but without resorting to attacks or insults, yes.
MAGA scum who only come to pick fights and push lies, F no.
Yes. I blocked all MAGA on my first day and it’s been great. That’s different than blocking all replies to your posts though. If you’re refusing to interact with anyone at all then what’s the point?
I don't think anyone is actually suggesting that.
I mean, maybe there are a few who might wanna be hidden lurkers, but I'm just reading it as weeding out the useless MAGA filth
Paraphrasing Rosa Luxembourg, John Stuart Mill, Thomas Paine, and others: It is not just the right of the person who speaks to be heard; it is also of the right of everyone in the audience to listen. Every time you silence someone, you make yourself a prisoner of your own action.
Sure, it can block trolls. But it also stops you from seeing another perspective. Or from getting called out when you post stupid shit. Sounds like something Trump and any other fascist would love. No thanks.
Ya well I don't belive in people getting on my comments trying to cause arguments, spread hate speech, or push magat disinformation. Spirited debate is welcome. But when u stop acting like an adult ur GONE! Makes sense to me
I think we should just drop all contact. They don't want ty debate or change any views. Most of them have tds so bad their brains are mush & only belive what comes from dump himself. No explanation,no arguments, no reply. It's harder than it sounds
You're obviously new to internet trolls. They literally ruined Twitter. There is a huge difference between intelligent engagement and what david is referring to and you know this.
Of course I know this. And you know what they say about assuming right?Musk ruined Twitter, trolls were always there as well as everywhere. He just let them run free because he's the biggest one. When you block all replies, you are hiding from intelligent engagement.
Like any tool, it can be abused. But if I don't have to as often see idiots and their race/gender/moral BS baiting posts from good moderation, that's winning.
I absolutely agree with that. But my point is, if you see no responses, you are just another problem. It's "social" media, not someone's personal platform.
At the same time. If I personally post something (not reply), it is very comforting to know that I have some control if replies to me get out of control.
It's inevitable that some will abuse this, but I imagine in those cases, I probably wouldn't like the original post.
You're 100% right that it could stop you from seeing other views. Some people aren't sharing views though - they're sharing hate. All views are welcome on Bluesky - all behavior is not. And that's the difference with X - they allowed all behavior as well. Well, unless you criticized Musk.
Agreed, but hiding from hate only allows it to spread unchecked. That's how we got where we are in this country. We all need to stand up and be the barrier to keep it from spreading. Not hide from it.
As Louis Brandeis said: "Sunlight is the best disinfectant"
We want the opposing side's perspectives, visions and ideas out in the OPEN where we can engage them with logical argument - and crush them with our better ideas.
To the people freaking out: it doesn’t mean stopping everyone’s replies. It means going to each troll reply and hiding it from everyone. It’s an extra troll killer, in addition to reporting and blocking.
Perhaps, but it also cuts you off from perspectives that might be useful as material for your YouTube show, such as outside Countries looking into the situation in the US...
"Bigfoot" is such a derogatory term... Sasquatch is more appropriate. 😉
Or, depending on region, Yeti, Yowie, or Almas.
"Skunk Ape" will get you bitten.
😀
I also like labels. They have folks that monitor posts and posters and will assign them labels if they are known to be toxic in any way. Then, everything they post from then on gets labeled as well automatically.
If a person is found to be toxic in error, then the label can be removed.
There are always going to be people who just cannot handle any push back whatsoever who are going to block on sight and that's true across the political spectrum. Where this nuke of a block feature is great is for continued harassment and trolling and just straight up inane replies to earnest posts.
i feel like a hide reply feature just gives attention to trolls, because they will know if you hide their reply, and you are basically giving them prioritized attention so basically the opposite of the goal
Similar risk to the edit button. Would be great for legitimate typo corrections, etc but could be abused after they get interaction then change the post.
Edit button implementations were at least versioned and showed the version that the user retweeting had interacted with to minimise those issues. If you could view spot blocks on a post that would deal with it, but would also no longer be a spot block, just a hidden reply like Twitter/X.
If you haven't used the feature, learn about it before being all upset. When someone posts something nasty as a reply to a post, you can hide that reply from the rest of the commenters/readers. It IS a damn good feature.
I imagine that to be very time consuming to moderate your posts. Wouldn't you just block the user and remove all their replies to your posts?
On the other hand, how about a feature to highlight very insightful replies and push them to then top. Like this one.

That and your profile doesn't say "make the libs cry"!

That little bit of power might go straight to my head!

I'm certain when we shut-out the haters and trolls - they get so sad they can't participate that they change their ways.
They'll come groveling back to us, hat in hand with sincere apologies - begging to be let back in.

build yourself a lil tower for your subjects to adore

Just saying, please don't block my reply.
So you can basically "spot block" trolls etc.
Bet that is used by a lot of our more popular posters.
It makes sense
I feel like that's the natural order without an algorithm pushing right wing views, people just want normal interactions.
That's my hope anyway.
I'd rather have this than not, I think.
Perfect when you just want to be left alone.
