I’m convinced that like 80% of furry discourse is actually one person going “You know what? I’m bored. Let’s say some shit about [pup hoods/furries over 30/spinal curvature making something problematic]. It’s too quiet.”

Really, this. FurAffinity journals used to be intolerable back in the day! Someone would express an opinion and one would see dozens of journals about [Latest Thing], and yeah! It really never stopped.
There's technically nothing wrong with it, but it doesn't fully answer all the questions we (furries/therians) get asked regarding morality. It's a useful tool, but it's not a multitool.
I think everyone was trying to maintain a sense of normalcy and didn't want to rock the boat.
With the US going nazitown, people have given up, and they're pulling their underwear over their heads and jumping off the roof, screaming, "WITNESS MEEEEE!!!"
Also at the end of the day...it's fictional art of a fictional species. I couldn't care less if people get their rocks off to it so long as they're not abusing anyone IRL.
The spine angle thing was the actual policy of FurryLifeOnline, s short-lived site that was meant to be the next big furry social platform. They had a helpful diagram and everything.
"if Bella and Jacob (in werewolf form) are getting it on and Jacob is quiet during the act, and someone walks in on them, does it count as zoophilia/bestiality?"
I do understand the urge to pitch a conversational hand grenade now and then - e.g. if I really want to get the Star Wars community going I always keep "Actually, The Last Jedi is the best of all nine mainline SW films" in my back pocket to spice things up.
A new wave of puriteens forms in the community, post their shit takes like they're something new, and the ones of the previous generation that refused to accept that they were wrong latch onto it and propagate it
As someone who's watched almost every Mad Mad movie, the pup hood discourse is weird. If folks can get away with Mad Max and Roadhog Overwatch cosplay at cons, then why not pup hoods?
It's not the majority by any means, but it's tiring hearing young furriest constantly stir the pot by bringing up / purifying adult concepts - OR freshly 18-19 year olds who think that legally being an adult means they're now fully educated and able to speak on adult topics.
Maybe not ONE single person, but I think we have a few VERY LOUD shit stirrers every new generation that like to start trouble, and a certain number of gullible easily influenceable kids who tag along because they genuinely think they're on a righteous mission to "save the fandom".
You forgot the periodic "I'm starting my own alternative to Furry fandom without all the NSFW/LGBTQIA+ folks in it, it's totally not Burned Furs version 37" discourse.

Wait spinal curvature? Are they cancelling people with scoliosis now?!
I have seen people also argue the harkness test is bad.
For reasons.
In real life, a 15yo wouldn't wander into a conversation between adults and start making such bizarre judgmental statements.
Online, everyone else is just another account, you don't know how old people are, so they're bolder.

I'm not gonna sit there measuring bone angles like a transvestigator to figure out if it's morally correct to let this sentient canine bury his bone.
Some people.
Any time Clippy is mentioned it unlocks a memory I wish would stay buried so now you have to see it too.

It's rather nice, really?
It's called Disneyland.
