I thought I’d be breaking stuff all over the house but I’m surprisingly calm and still very excited for the future. Demidov & Reinbacher for a full season and a 2C. Add all the lessons learned from meaningful games through game 82. Positives far out way negatives, playoffs or not!

I agree that St-Louis has done some amazing work coaching his young players and you can see the progression, but don’t you think you have to put some of the blame for the many bad starts they’ve had on the way the team is prepared for their opponent’s gameplan?

Was at the game last night. I was also at the 0-5 turnaround against the Rangers in 2008.

The first period last night was at that level, or higher. It was physically exhausting just to sit down and watch.

I felt like I had run 10k after that first period.

Will need to do some stretching.

Great write up as always. I'd agree that most players not named Demidov should be goats but none more than Laine. It's a slight miracle he made it back at all this season but I'd like to see some actual compete level from him in a game that mattered so much. The puck died on his stick way too often.

I agree. Laine loses the puck all the time. Esp on the PP. If he gets pressured, the puck goes out of the zone. He reminds me of Kovalev. Lots of talent but very frustrating to watch.
I think the Habs make it in. But either way, we got meaningful games til the very end.

He was controlling the play during the PP and he was strong enough to win his puck battles.

Please don't compare Laine to Kovalev.
Laine is a one trick poney. He has a great shot, that's it.

Great column Brian. I wholeheartedly agree that MSL deserves serious consideration for the Jack Adams and you captured why perfectly. I will also confess that I was a bit perplexed by some of his decisions last night. Laine over Demidov in the shootout was a head scratcher to me, for example.

You had me until the Jack Adams nomination. There have been countless times where the player usage didn’t make any sense. Accountability for few, but not all. In game adjustments that just never come. Coaching goes further than just making the playoffs when you shouldn’t imo.

I have an issue with Heineman not being dressed. Apparently he was a healthy scratch. He is so much better than Kapanen. Kapanen has done nothing since being inserted into the lineup.

My other issue is with the Handling of Xhekaj. If he did what Guhle did last night…you get the picture.
