What sci-fi shenanigans resulted in gigantic Spock and Kirk heads floating in space though?

An April Fool's prank combined with a transporter malfunction. Spoke was attempting to understand humor.

75 years old and still love it.

Without McCoy the magic triangle is incomplete and doesn´t work.
