I would imagine that a £10.5m payment in return for providing a crap service is an absolute no brainer business decision for a company turning over £12bn a year.
I'm sure the privatised mail is trying to get it's postal service taken back into public ownership so they can keep hold of the profitable parcel service only.

The volume of mail has surely dropped to levels where costs are prohibitive and guaranteed deadlines are unsustainable.
Letters are a luxury and surely from a dying age.
The Royal Mail is not what it used to be.
