I visited a new BYD dealer last month. Went to see a non-BYD used trade-in with a mate. Had booked an appointment, but had to take it out with 5% battery (salesman v apologetic) because the two(!) chargers they had on site were both in use. He didn’t buy it.

Car dealerships are rarely somewhere I’d want to go, unless I want to walk along a row of car dealerships on the outskirts of a town.

I’m sure many would look at the revenue from 10m2 of sales vs chargers.

Actually, they are breaking the law if these are public chargers. No contactless, only payable via the app. Therefore it must be a private service.

Depends if they keep selling them!

If cars are stationary a lot, granny chargers would be more than enough for most dealers. Charge stock overnight. You can fill a lot of battery in 12 hours!

But cars that are serviced? Top them up for the customer, nice little extra touch? Maybe? As well as all the staff needing to charge their company/employee cars too.

Nissan dealers had the first dealer charging network I think. None of the others have really taken EVs seriously in the way Tesla did building worldwide charger coverage. I think VW etc paid into Ionity but that was because of dieselgate rather than a genuine belief.

Without the superchargers, Tesla had an existential threat. Other automakers are waiting for the market to roll out chargers, because can they afford otherwise?

Any dealer I’ve been to has one charger for topping up demo/staff cars, but never marked as for customers. Maybe I’m at the wrong dealers.

Chargers seem about as prevalent as EV techs…

The app is to book them, I am presuming paying can be done either with the app or via tap n go. I also expect if you use tap n go you get charged more. Which is SUPER cool.

Aye, hence me saying "presuming". If there's no tap n go its illegal. If you're talking about being charged more, I have that with Ionity as I don't use their app nor pay another subscription to join their club.
