So there’s now four tomes at least to the “empathy as toxic” movement. I don’t know of anything that could be considered a like response—and I get why: we’d all say that’s the default, so why would there be anything to defend it much less assert it?

@mflack.bsky.social brought up a salient point that maybe the true effective response here is to practice empathy and service. Seems it's Jesus' advice too. "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

Maybe a book is okay at some point, but when I look at people who practice an anti-empathy life against people who practice an empathetic one, there's clarity of goodness that the whole mode of argumentation just can't accomplish.

Sometimes I really want the mic drop, but that'll preach.
