Some boycotts are easier than others. I don’t ever have to shop at Hobby Lobby and I never need a chicken sandwich from Chick-fil-A. But, if you can’t get out of your house, Amazon is a lifeline. If you’re poor, Walmart can help you save money.

I’ve price checked with other places… Walmart is more expensive than it once was and you get less product. We have Mejiers and Aldi here. It’s cheaper and you get more ozs!! Price check if you can!
Mejiers is only in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Wisconsin.
Aldi is not in U.S. Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, Washington, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Alaska, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, American Samoa, Idaho, Oregon, Guam, Maine, New Mexico, or Montana.
its walmart here. or drive an extra half hour down the hill to a mall that is halfway closed and doesn't carry what you need anyhow. only box stores are really thriving here.
I’m going to be honest, if my ill, fussy eater kid asks for Chick Filet after an IV infusion as a treat - I will be getting it for him. I do my best to avoid certain places on the whole but not in these situations.
I have a lot of health issues and live in a place with very poor quality shopping. So I shop on Amazon a lot. But I also try to patronize local small businesses when I can.
Boycotting Amazon includes Kindle purchases. As a voracious reader who tries to utilize my local library, I just can't get access to all I need. It also hurts indie authors publishing direct to Kindle.
So true! Living in Japan, our military base is tiny and most of us rely heavily on Amazon to get what we need that we can’t get here. Luckily Target does ship here, but there’s certain things we just can’t get anywhere but Amazon when we are so isolated and have limited options!
I have been amazed at seeing the impact of Amazon delivery in rural Canada also. Wayfair too. Surely different than your situation but it’s a real game changer in terms of unifying our markets and homogenizing our cultures. Some of that may not be so good long term.
I am more upset about Walmart & others abandoning DEI.
People born in poverty are born in a hole. They need a helping hand to level their playing field. I am ok with that but then I don't think another human getting ahead affects me negatively.
Walmart is actually not less expensive.
Cheap is not less expensive if you get less for your dollar or poor quality items that have to be replaced frequently.
Food and staples are much cheaper at other stores if you bother to compare.
People perceive it is cheaper.
In some rural areas, Walmart is the only big store around. So there is no comparison shopping unless you’re willing to drive 40 or more minutes. Also, Some people might only have $15 or $20 for some new clearance jeans or dress. Better quality doesn’t matter if it’s way out of their price range.
I have comparison shopped, Walmart is $2 to $5 cheaper on a lot of brand name grocery items. They are the same quality that I would get at other stores.
I walked away from Amazon, cancelled Prime but found that it carries things that I can’t find anywhere else … except Walmart. So I joined Walmart+ after vowing not to shop there. My local stores can’t carry all of what they can carry and there really isn’t “local” shopping for most of these things.
Thank you for that! I don't qualify for food stamps & my health insurance gives me a food benefit I can only use at Walmart. Also boycotting Walmart will cost people their job not just Republicans but Democrats as well. If I get rid of my car & car insurance I would have money for food per DHS.
I’ve never eaten at chick-fil-A , I don’t care if people say it’s good. Also never a hobby lobby. So many people are unaware of their views. I share thoughts
Also in a lot of smaller cities Walmart is the only place to shop in town. So unless you want to drive 25 miles to buy pants your where to shop decision is made for you.
Unfortunately, this was Walmart's plan all along. Destroy small-town businesses and create a retail desert. They succeeded... to the detriment of us all. Read "How Walmart is Destroying America and the World" by Bill Quinn. Written years ago, never more true.
Thanks for that perspective. It is important to "put yourself in someone else's shoes" before jumping to some judgement or shaming someone. I hadn't really thought about this before. I am fortunate to be able to be a little choosy in where I shop, but I will have kind thoughts for those who cannot.
While true, we should all try what we can. I used to buy low cost Hane’s t-shirts & sweatshirts on Amazon. Then i discovered their prices were often even better buying directly on the Hane’s website. Idk maybe they’re maga supporting too but at least not paying both & saving $ to spend on other good
For non perishables there are lots of websites. Not sure about prescriptions. I know I got my dog's prescriptions on Chewy. I'm sure there are othe sites. Just might take a little work to ferret them out...
Our purchases are limited to food and essentials. If you're disabled and on a very limited budget eBay and Etsy aren't helpful. Thanks for understanding.
There are very few retails stores that don't offer delivery. Amazon is not the only online option. Try to avoid Amazon whenever possible. When it's not possible, go for it.
If I had the option to pick and choose, I would. In my town there's the local grocer, Walmart or Aldi and our Aldi isn't very big so you can't possibly get everything you need from there. The other option is to drive 90 miles to the next largest city.
My son shames me. I tried canceling my Amazon Prime/subscriptions, but there are items I can’t find anywhere else. I’ll buy everything I can elsewhere. I like items at Whole Foods I can’t buy elsewhere. My friend, an animal rights activist said WF’s is more humane. I think their products are better.
Thank you for bringing this up, Jess. Boycotting certain things indeed depends on one's capabilities. Every effort is worthwhile, e.g. buying one candy bar instead of another, even if the person shops at X because it's what's available to them. Every grain of sand makes up the beach.
Of course we do. SOME Dems don't, but most of us not only do but are vocal about it. You ever sneer at the fights on Black Friday over some TV? We don't. Those are people struggling to be middle class, desperate for what WE have. Dems do get it for the most part. GOP never.
Word. I wish there was a more accommodating phrase that explained "#Boycott when, where, and only *if* you can"... like "from each according to their means ..."
Thank you Jess. Over the years I have tried to find alternatives to Amazon, but I just can't. Just for my monthly subscribe & save items I would have to shop at 10 different sites & still not be able to find all the items I need. I'm disabled so I can't go out & shop myself so they are a lifeline.
Thank you for this. When the first post about boycotting these stores came out. I felt like shit and I do everytime I see one. I live on a fixed monthly income, I can't afford to shop anywhere else. I begged people not to hate me for it. Because if I could shop at the more expensive stores I would.
Don’t feel like shit about anything, Sandi. Like the post said, we all do what we can. And you can think of this, if you want: I, another Sandy, is able to boycott these stores because I live in a larger area with more choices. So when I go somewhere else, I do that for both of us, ok? 1/2
My sister is in a position similar to yours. She uses ebay, with her line drawn at Amazon. She also has Walmart deliver her groceries (it’s free for a one time reasonable fee). I love her more than I can say. Please don’t feel like shit about anything. ♥️ 2/2
Thank you so much ❤️
I appreciate it. My husband has to do a lot and cover bills I can't, but even with his job, it's still hard. I've been trying to build a small crocheting business to make a little extra money, but right now, it's on hold as I'm recovering from some health issues that came up.
I do what I can that doesn't cost me money like staying active on here, reposting, staying informed, and trying to keep others informed. Again, thank you very much 🥰
Not necessarily true ~ but these are things these corporations have convinced you is true. ESPECIALLY Amazon. Almost anything you can buy on Amazon, you can buy directly from the company (and often for lest). Move your money to a credit union to make a big difference - for yourselves and others.
But it's worthwhile to KNOW who to avoid. These companies donated EXCLUSIVELY to tRump

Thank you! I feel so guilty using both as a rural community member that can't get into the city. I'm also autistic, which has its own disabling issues. If this were a fair world, I wouldn't be old, poor and disabled. So Amazon it is. ❤️

What if all of your finances for you and your family are tied to a regular bank?
What if where you live is so rural that some places can’t deliver to your address?
