the logical first step to a divorce is physically leaving. the legal process of divorce is after you have left. if you need help call the police, national domestic violence hotline, local domestic violence shelter, trusted family and friends. legal divorce takes time in every single state.
The misogyny in some ‘red’ states (in quotes because gerrymandering makes it extreme in many states) is absolutely astounding. And the fact that women vote for the people who do this to them is just hard to fathom.
When is some young bright lawyer going to get cialis, viagra and all the other ED meds banned. If it's God's will, such it up buttercup. Remember this when they come for your birth control.
I carried a sign at a reproductive protest this year that read “Ban Viagra! Limp Dicks are God’s Will!” Considering they’re trying to ban mifepristone or classify it as a scheduled drug due to safety, I think we should ban drugs that are less safe than it like Viagra. It’s also safer than Tylenol…
You should have heard how i told my nieces and granddaughters how to protect themselves from a rape. Reach down, grab, squeeze hard, twist, and pull with all your strength.
Ugh. That is ridiculous. That simply makes it possible for a marital sexual abuser to force women to remain in that marital relationship. Let me guess, it was passed by a conservative majority? This will only discourage marriages from taking place.
Hey Ms. Piper, what kind of draconian laws still exist in Missouri Jess? I know the abortion ban dated back to the 1800's. Since the vote in November, what has really changed for Missouri? Just asking questions for a better understanding not division.
Interesting. I looked it up and you’re right. That’s one change for good at least. My view was not based on being Texas centric, it’s based on the old uniform family code that WAS adopted by most states. I’m old, what can I say.
Especially now that they deem a fetus a person. In divorces with kids, the kids are listed in the style of the case, their paternity is adjudicated, possession & access is scheduled, and child support determined. Divorce was delayed for birth to address those.
Wow! I find it deeply upsetting as pregnancy is the most vulnerable time for a woman caught in an abusive relationship! It’s the time she’s most likely to be killed in the relationship.
Babe ... its fucking Missouri ... about all you can say that's good about it is that it ain't Arkansas. My advise to you - get the fuck out! Just plain run away.
Girls, these men piss me off, and I am literally, actually the last guy on earth you want to piss off. I'm going to try and make things right, though. Watch me.
Everyday that I hear more of these archaic laws and hatefulness towards women (and everyone who’s not white, cis, Christian, male) makes me sick. Never thought id be disappointed in being an American.
I never thought I’d have fewer rights than when I was growing up. In my state if I’m raped and get pregnant I’m now forced to give birth. Never thought I’d say ‘well it’s a good thing I was raped in my 20s before these laws went into place.’ So deeply upsetting!
Safe wishes to her! No going anywhere alone, no dark/ dim lite streets, walk with keys protruding out of fingers like claws. Mace is good too! Or, if she carries, it needs to be on her 24/7
Yes, only because the court has to address the paternity of the child. In most states, the law presumes, the husband is the child’s father and this needs to be addressed. However, in Michigan, there are ways to do that before the divorce is final.
MO & half of states (red & blue) do currently require disclosure of pregnancy to file for divorce. That is bad & it would be easy to remove that requirement from the statute.
harder problem is judges not finalizing in rare cases where it would benefit the pregnant person to do so, even tho they can
I believe it. It’s a tricky problem to solve that judges are requiring something that isn’t required by law. We need to fix it without reinforcing the idea that judges don’t already have the discretion to finalize while a party is pregnant.
Then it IS the de facto law in Missouri that you cannot get a divorce while pregnant. You can’t have it both ways! (“Not technically illegal” DOES NOTCUT IT. And if you were ever wondering why the general public is COMPLETELY pissed off at their “leaders” or “the elites”, this is it!)
Any publication that starts a story with ‘alarmist stories’ when discussing problematic and archaic laws is not one I care to read. Also don’t see how it is in any way typical as most states don’t require this.

Telling.
I wish I was way more surprised.
That's just insane.
I still can't believe the times we're living in... For every step forward we have made as women they push us back three steps.
Cross the border into Canada Robin.
We were in shock sitting there hearing that.
Ya’llqaeda strikes again 💀
Shocking precisely no one, those states also have near total abortion bans since the fall of Roe.

I am so sorry Ariel for what you went through.😔
Is that actually enforced?
That is crazy
But not at all surprising
Not surprised though.

I explained what the problem is in the two articles.
