I was a hungry kid. I often went without school lunch because I didn’t have the money.
I later moved to Oklahoma and attended school on native land. Guess what the Cherokee did? They fed every kid with no questions asked. I was able to learn with a full belly with no shameful stigma attached.

Biscuits with chocolate gravy is the best!!
By chance, do you know if these Tribal schools accept donations toward free meals at school? Part of my New Year's resolution is paying forward, and I'd love to help the kids.
I wasn’t trying to be political
But yeah there are lots of situations where people who suffered end up causing more pain for someone else. Otherwise there wouldn’t be generational trauma.

And if done with federal funding, why the hell wouldn't you?
Feed the kids.
I seem to recall it was Antony Worrall Thompson, although Gordon Ramsay has echoed similar sentiments.
Although Conservatives they're both passionate about food, health and nutrition
Since then,I think as a whole, the UK understands the need of better quality food, Even tho, it is expensive !
But a Full English Breakfast is never going to healthy. Delicious and wonderful but never healthy.
Lot of money trying to turn this place into Cold Texas and strip-mine what we have.
That the states most in need of such a program are red states is an irony I can’t get my head around.
But, hey let’s spend 50 K on trump bibles in classrooms.
These people are using religion to grift as usual.
Following you now
Forget private jets and stadium-sized megachurches.. compete with how many meals you've cooked and served without asking anything.
Perhaps this is a start to Making America Great Again. Old fashioned school lunch.
At $5/day per kid, it would cost taxpayers less than $44bn per year to feed every child in public school two meals per day.
Perspective: we spend $30-33bn annnually just on Navy shipbuilding.
Rich people don't even believe one can be born into inescapable poverty. Because of karma, they will live each of those billions of lives. 🥹
Approximately $175 billion per year to end extreme poverty worldwide (global economic development experts)
$23 billion to fight extreme hunger and an additional $14 billion to address chronic hunger (Oxfam)
Republicans ruined Oklahoma. It's why I left.

From 7th to 9th grade I never had money for lunch & just waited outside. I quit asking my mom for money cuz I didn’t want to make her cry. I’m in favor of free lunch & breakfast for school kids
I've seen that on reservations with close to 50% unemployment and a percap of $100 or so a year.
Keeping the kids fed is that important, and commods only go so far.
But we just HAVE to have our outgroup whom the law BINDS but does not PROTECT, it seems.
Not a monolith, of course, and in some cases there's corruption and deceit equal to anything you'd find in a Supreme Court or state legislature.
But there's something to be said for 'Kids and elders eat first, nobody goes hungry if we can help it' as a policy.
So vote for the 'wrong' person and no housing/commods/percap/support.
I hear white supremacy is found in every state. Does that make all white people racist? No.
I live in Navajo country, politics are politics, and their methods come from invaders of their country. I wouldn’t put much emphasis on a single example.
What I find bewildering is that poor people voted for this criminal, religion and lack of education have a lot to answer for.
Tramp wouldn’t piss on them if they were on fire.
Life is hard enough without our political leaders (meaning Republicans!) making life more difficult than it already is.
Although dining with them often requires reservations...
…Priorities?
I went to public school in Oklahoma.
They werent so kind. I went hungry most of the time in my senior year. Fell asleep in class frequently, and got the paddle for it.
Feeding 'THOSE' children means (in their eyes) creating competition for their children down the road.
Or worse, rewarding SIN by holding back consequences.
Creating a permanent underclass with the side benefit of warning their own kids about the dangers of going outside the bounds of The Church.
😵💫
Tribes stepped up and fed all.
Pathetic
In 1847, the Choctaw nation of Oklahoma made a donation of $170 to help people suffering thousands of miles away in the Irish famine. The gift would be tens of thousands of dollars in modern terms. Not forgotten. It is those who are greedy/never hungry, cannot share?
For my US folks, we are not a charter school, we are in fact, private and under the Microschool umbrella. :)
And this, of course...
"A note for my white friends: privilege doesn’t mean we haven’t experienced hard times. Privilege means our skin color didn’t factor into hard times"
it should be illegal. They are segregating children into monetary categories
No child anywhere, anytime ever should go without food, heat or light, that should be the law of the land
(And I love that we can say these things here without a gazillion ignorant troll bots screaming about commies and socialism ☺️. #FuckElon)
I would also bet that given five minutes to prepare, every GOP member of congress from Oklahoma could (and would) conjure up a frothy floor speech denouncing free school lunches as Satanic.
I drove through Oklahoma for the first time last year (eclipse watching) and saw the numerous signs in the Cherokee language. I wish America would celebrate our First Nations as Canada does.
