They were treated and drawn as animals. In NYC the tenement museum depicts life in the 5 points in the early 20th century. There was a heavy German presence in 1 building and one Irish family. Pictures drawn of the family were monkey-like but in clothing.
Racism in every form is ridiculous
Particularly odd since these folks are descendants of people who would have been very familiar with the term “Black Irish”. It’s like they don’t know their own history..
St Patrick’s day is a white holiday. It’s the minority holidays they’re trying to get rid of.
Republicans have no choice but to toe the line now. They know if the people win they will have to leave the country or become a recluse because they will have no peace. I will forever help make it so.
Has he cancelled MLK Day and Juneteenth yet?
If he had any idea that many schools in the northeast are closed for certain Jewish, Hindu, and Muslim holidays, he’d be throwing ketchup for sure.
Isn't it? Then again, over-consumption of alcohol has become a feature of the day, in the US, and Irish have become white, too. Both right up Pete's alley!
@saddamscribe.bsky.social wrote a great piece about that for the San Antonio Express News. I’m going with the idea that it’s all about the alcohol, though.
There is no way a MAGA administration is going to cancel a holiday that at least in America revolves almost entirely about white people day drinking in public.
Irish were not “white” when they showed up in America. They were the “bad” immigrants of the day. Costing “real” Americans their jobs. Now, America without the Irish wouldn’t be America. Just like America, wouldn’t be America without all of our immigrant ancestors.
Hey. Thought you might want to know there's a typo
You seem to have typed "weird" where you obviously meant "white"
I'm sure it was just #StupidAutocorrect
😉
St. Patrick's Day isn't a Federal holiday or a state holiday in any of the states. It never has been. Banks, public schools, and government offices all are open. Catholic schools might be closed because of the whole "saint" thing, maybe.
My Papa took a job tailoring when he came from Ireland
He wasn’t “white enough” for anything else in Boston. Learned 7 languages & built his own sewing machines & became the head tailor
The Irish are one of the most diverse cultures globally now… Like Italians.
The irony is that the Irish immigrants were not treated well by the US or the UK. I traced my genealogy and my Irish ancestors were even jailed in the UK and then put on boats to the US and Australia. History repeats itself today sadly with different immigrants.
The Irish Diaspora in the the UK 8 million. ONS
The Irish Diaspora in the United States 35 Million.

Irish still resident in Ireland 5.5 million
Northern Ireland

Girl, I'm still waiting on the Chucklefucks in power to declare The Purge an Official US National Holiday(U are aware of the PURGE MOVIES??? Right?)....yep,I see it coming....a nite to murder & commit attrocities with MAGAT Blessings.....
Because they’re too dumb to know that the Irish fought for Mexico in the Mexico-American War, have fully supported Palestine, and basically haven’t tried to colonize anyone. Nearly every time they stick up for the oppressed. Did write a condolence letter to 🇩🇪 after THAT guy’s death though
Look up Trump gets rid of women’s history month, black history month, Juneteenth etc. federally he canceled any celebration of any cultural heritage. Any groups like women engineerers or Mexican postal workers can not meet.
It’s confusing because nothing is specific and groups just disbanded.
In schools on military bases, they were not allowed to teach about black history or women’s history. A friend of my mom‘s was just going to mix in her lessons during the year instead of just during the month of Feb.
Like everything I’m not really sure if he thought it through before declaring it.
We are on the verge of having our power cut off due to an overwhelming rise in electricity costs brought about by the increased need for shelter among trans individuals. Unfortunately, we cannot afford to pay this exorbitant bill.
Why make St Patrick's Day an exception? I'm Irish, and I don't care one way or the other.
Is Christmas still a holiday?
I assume it would be with all the Christo-fascists in charge.
You might want to look up the island of Montserrat and you might want to look in Mexico and a number of other countries
Because you’re wrong about that
It’s not the same. DEI is for anything related to people of color or women. But Saint Patty’s is a DUI holiday. For the raging alcoholic in charge it’s right up there with Christmas
This is such a dictator (tiny ) BS. We have kids stealing our money. We are on the verge of war I will celebrate all the holidays. No One Bosses me around.
19th century Irish in America were poor and disease-ridden. They threatened American's jobs and strained welfare budgets. They practiced papacy and pledged allegiance to a foreign leader. They were all criminals and rapists. There are reputably 50K undocumented Irish in the US today.
We still have "Superior to white Christian republican males" month, we just don't invite the short dick WCRMs. They would just ruin it like they do everything.
One public and bank holiday every month,
Plus 14 days paid Annual leave.
35 to 39 maximum 48 hour work week in Europe. Average after income tax $800.
What's not to like.

The WASP’s that attacked and discriminated against the Irish are the forebears of those who attack and discriminate against anyone today who is non white.
Yes, also the group that can say that they "immigrated legally" because there were no barriers to immigration then. 🙄 In case anyone is unsure, my family is part of that category, so I am fully aware. ☘️🤦♀️

W H I T E would be the proper spelling here.
My dear, you have misread the American people.

The way we're going, someone's going to have to dust off that sign.

They did that???
For real???
Do you have the list of hollydays they cancelled?
It would be interesting to get a post about this.
Fuck Trump!!

People forget ireland is one of the most invaded islands in the world and has a long history of various cultures invading the island
Look up the island of Montserrat
Look at Mexico
Irish people are not white has a primary thing
They were never even seen as White when they first came over back in the days
Look up, NINA
