I have to admit I am unfamiliar with these stories.

I started a “Doctor Who” rewatch on iPlayer, going back to the very beginning, and also “Space: 1999” on ITVX, but I just don’t have the TV bandwidth required in amongst everything else 🫤

I’m always quite fond of Deliverance, but more than any other this year it really splits into different capsules (Blake, Avon, Servalan) and I can’t help trying to spot who wrote and who directed which bits.

Your talking about repetition here made me pull out one of the few Series A tropes I don’t care for – too much answering random calls rather than deciding where to go. But at least this one really ties into the plot.

And if not exactly repetition, it’s got huge echoes many years later: I wonder if it was one of RTD’s favourites, as there’s a lot of Deliverance in Utopia, but turned up to 11 (I wonder if the other self of Professor Ensor or Professor Yana would go on to make the bigger mark on their series?).

My favourite scene in this one has to be Servalan at her most ruthless (so far): you call her a Bond villain, but isn’t she more M, deploying infamously deadly assassin Travis Bond to deal with those terrorists for the state? Only a far more capable M who takes over the mission when Bond fails!
