If it came up with something coherent yes I’d absolutely talk about it! I think anyone who follows me knows I report on ChatGPT and user behavior, hence I beta test and investigate use cases of these different products. Again, it’s my job. If it wasn’t I wouldn’t have to worry about any of it!

I concede that reporting on something may mean taking unethical actions where it's in the public interest for a product, tech, behaviour etc to be reported on.

But ChatGPT/genAI products are a known quantity at this point. "Gives bad suggestions" isn't newsworthy or a compelling reason to use it.

Again, I am a tech reporter who reports on the user side of these platforms so I engage with them and beta test features in frankly very lightweight ways. I don’t consider that unethical, I am a journalist and somehow seem to be the only tech journalist held to this standard

I think you make a fair counterpoint here, but I don't think you're the only one held to this standard. This kind of pushback happens pretty much every time I see someone who isn't MAGA say they used chatgpt for something.

I get it but this sort of pushback is not productive and it’s harmful imo. It’s good for critical journalists to understand these products and report on them and their use cases. Whether u guys like it or not this is a product that’s one of the most popular and pervasive tech products out there rn

I can't speak for everyone who may be critical of Taylor for using it but I would push back against any person I saw engaging with generative AI. I have stopped following/following the work of some people over it, but honestly that has been limited because most people I follow won't touch it.

Specifically for a reporter, I can see many reasons to engage with things that would otherwise be frowned on. Maintaining a presence on X, for instance, to report on the service or its users. I personally do not see the benefit of using ChatGPT in a "lightweight" way when the downsides are so clear.
