Important to note that this Gallup poll was conducted between 2023-2024 and doesn’t even cover the Trump admin’s current actions. It’s going to get a lot worse.

Time for real Change before we lose the right to Change.
Cut military spending in half...tax the billionaires and multi millionaires and Corporations at least 70%. Single payer healthcare, free higher education, environmental regulations to save the ecosystem from the oil companies.
Military is needed if we want international trade. To many bad actors still exist in the world.
One thing to add to your list.
National service(helping the poor, medical, cleaning national parks peace corps etc.) Our society is far too insular and we have to fix that moving forward.
Yemen and Somalia are the best examples. Most of Europe doesn’t have the capability to keep safe passage for most international shipping.
Yes, better soft power would solve the basic issues around the world. But that takes political and financial capital. Both which the USA has shouldered.
Yemen is only an issue because Israel is committing genocide. Somalia is an issue due to US military operations in East Africa destabilizing the region and triggering massive increases of poverty. In both situations, the US military is either the cause or aiding the issue you think they're fighting.
Even if we cut the DOD in half, it would still the most powerful military force in the world by far. If we want to find “fraud, waste, and abuse”, we can start with the DOD.
Most waste in the DoD is due to inadequate oversight in acquisitions.
Yes the DoD could be cut but the problem is will what is the end goal? Defense of the homeland only? The ability to project power to help the world in the time of need.

I think probably somewhere in between. In 2023, it paid out $880bn – more than the next eight countries combined, according to SIPRI. I have a chainsaw in my garage. Give me a week.
As we drift further and further into dystopia, it’s becoming more obvious to more people that Republicans are fascist and Democrats are mostly neoliberal. Both parties taking money from corporations and billionaires not to do anything for the American people. Republicans are now dedicated to cruelty
Nothing says “bright future” like gen-z staring into the gaping maw of the same system they watched chew up and spit out their parents,
with zero fucks given and zero held accountable.
they've never been shown anything good that works, only years and years of fecklessness by the purported doers of good things, and endless victory and success for the craven and ruthless. it's fun to dunk on young people, but given what they've known their whole lives, is it that crazy a choice?
Gen x parents and their zoomer kids...they were always going to be a little this way, tbh, only then they had all of *this* shit AND they got 2 year isolation with covid. I really feel for them, and completely understand the hopelessness and nihilism cos I feel it myself 😬
This isn't new. Bowling for Columbine kind of warned about this. Consider today relative to the 90's we have constant news bombardment to the point where we believe we'll be stabbed walking outside by a black muslim trans leftist.
Makes sense lol. My generation is post-Iraq war, post-financial crisis. Most of us will never own a home. We’ve been traumatized by school shootings since we were in elementary schools. Our leaders have failed us. No wonder we are all anxious and angry.
I have high hopes for Zoomers and I still think they have a chance. I understand why they might exhibit these traits, they are inheriting a crap-shoot.
At least Millennials had hope when growing up (regardless of how false it may have been). Zoomers don't even get that.
There's a deep frustration in knowing this could be used to mobilise for real change, but knowing that that mobilisation has been largely towards the right in recent years. Plus it's such an uphill battle fighting against the sheer amount of money that goes into lobbying.
Citizens United kicked in right when Gen X became the 30-45 age bracket, which is a crucial developmental stage for politicians. That’s a big part of why there are hardly any Gen-X politicians who don’t suck.
Fear not, I’m sure when Trump fails per Schumer’s plan, a new neoliberal order will come in to add absolutely no new material benefit to anybody’s life and means-test what remains to death, and then get mad and resentful when we don’t think they’re doing their jobs.
Considering the Republicans and Democrats are so unpopular maybe it would be a good time for some real leftwing leadership. Marxists are always the ones that the world needs when fascism rises
I get that it's depressing, and I don't want to disqualify the feeling of helplessness in the onslaught of terrible news we see every day. But hope does spring eternal. You can still engage with your local community and build real connections. I volunteer at a high school in TX, and I love it.
I often wonder what it was like to grow up in a time of hope. The narrative among myself and my peers was always 'the future holds only despair and you should fear it'. What promise, what narrative do young people have?
