What was his alternative? If he waited until Jan. 19 he then cuts off the time he can use to prepare his report. I think this was strategic, since the case was not going to come to fruition anyway

What happens to the co-conspirators in the Jan. 6 case? Will there be indictments of them? They won't be covered by absolute presidential immunity. Shouldn't they be indicted and it be up to Trump's DOJ to be on the record dismissing those indictments (or to prosecute if they don't).
With the case now dismissed, what would now be the mechanism for including GJ testimony (really the only thing new we haven’t seen, besides TS docs) in a Smith report?
The regs don't provide for a detailed report by Smith to Garland setting forth the factual and legal case against T. Smith will give Garland a report explaining his "declination," i.e., OLC = can't continue to prosecute T while he's in office. That's it. Please telling me what I'm missing?
The regs don't permit a report making out the factual and legal case against, a presumed innocent, president-elect who OLC said can't be prosecuted while in office. Yes, very Mueller-like (i.e., not fair to make out a public case against a presumed innocent T47 who can't hold Govt to BARD proof.
Will Garland order any report to be public. Is he going to publicize a report that's almost certain to paint T47 as a guilty criminal given presumption of innocence & T47 not having opportunity to force Govt to est guilt BARD (bc OLC opinion T47 can't be prosecuted in office or as president-elect).

What report is required or permitted by SC regs?
Unlikely, though.
