Yes I keep saying this they don’t mean they don’t want their kids to go to Harvard they mean they don’t want other ppl (not white not rich leftish) ‘s kids to not go there
The cruelty of the Trump administration forcing me, a Columbia man, to say nice things about that place up in Cambridge while being ashamed of my alma mater, should not be underestimated.
I'm sure that's part of the calculus here.
"If we kill international student programs, and we kill federal loan programs, and we kill DEI programs...then only the rich and powerful can send their kids to elite schools!"
Maybe do this thing call earning the right to go to Harvard or other elite schools? Like taking the time and hitting the books instead of banning/burning them?
Yes! I know lots of old white guy alums from my fancy school who keep complaining their grandkids didn't get in because "they weren't the right demographic"
Not really. It becomes a easier for their kids if not competing with international students...and lot easier with the administration dictating admission policies.
While Harvard is indeed a good school, there are also other equally good or better schools as well across the globe. A lot of the rankings we see here in US are generated in US itself and often, not always, with a pinch of "American Exceptionalism" added to their computations!
Top students from across the globe do have other options as well. While top international students explore other options, Harvard can continue to produce the lawyers of the caliber of John Roberts, Neil Gorsuch who in turn can take this country deeper into history & into MAGA wet-dream!
That's not irony. It's the Wile E Coyote plan of theirs. Eliminate international talent, reduce domestic talent arising from working class or POC origins, and their mediocre offspring can finally have the chance to fail out of Harvard.
I'm pretty sure backdoor Admissions are part of a secret handshake. In Trump's mind, it's how he got into UPENN and earned a degree without attending class. Nobody knew who he was, because he wasn't there
My 100% honest opinion of the Ivies and other “elite” unis is that it’s just a way for the rich and well connected to launder their kids’ reputation to look like meritocracy when really they are just well connected.
The education itself is actually equal to hundreds of other schools.
There’s some truth to that, but that lends itself to the argument we have more foreign students, in addition to diversity admissions. A poorer person from Mississippi (or wherever) is able to get free education, room/board and, if necessary, winter clothes. But, there will always be the “Jarod’s”
They know Harvard is great when it comes to education and reputation. They just want Harvard to be racist and shitty like them. Which ironically would harm Harvard’s reputation and education. These are very one-dimensional human beings. It’s all about white supremacy every day they wake up.
Trump is a good example, like Cruz, Hawley, and others, that where you're educated isn't as important as how much you retain. Trump went to Wharton; he got a degree in Finance. He doesn't even know how tariffs work. Hawley and Cruz were fine with attacking the Capitol to send votes to States! Yikes.
They crave stolen valor so much that I think they prefer it to the real deal. They’ll happily destroy Harvard’s power, teaching ability, and reputation, just so their kids can have better chance to get a Harvard diploma that might as well be written in crayon by the time they get it.
Put another way, the reason that MAGA/GOP supporters so loathe science, scientists, higher education, et cetera is because they, themselves, lack the ability to think critically.
It’s a movement that appeals to the most basic feeling in its followers: fear of others and anything foreign to them.

Comparing Harvard alum network to the MaraLago “proud of our ignorance” crowd, is funny.
Just a thought.
I’m sure an argument can be made that importing brains is helpful, but this action would allow for more American acceptances.

They should be granted admission just because daddy said to.
We know how he reacts to being ignored, as Donald himself was rejected by the wealthy, successful NY community.
So perhaps yet another vengeance fueled grievance?
from admission
I doubt NYU was his first choice.
