Mine came with 2 modes, satellite and free-flight. Satellite uses gps positioning to keep it in one place no matter the wind factor, until you move it. It's like training wings. It was very easy. Now I use free flight for greater speed and turning, but no stabilization so you have to be mindful.
This is a by state basis. Look up your state "Drone Laws", you will find a list plus the Federal FAA rules which are pretty short for recreational use. Some states like NC where I live, have a weight rule which includes almost all drones, for you to register it online for $5 fee and pass a easy test
Make sure you're looking at recreational use vs commercial "Business" use. And be honest with yourself about what you plan to do with it. Doing commercial work without a license carries big fines. Also don't fly over houses or private property.
