And the CEO threatened staff not to leak anything to the press. Because making redundancies, stripping away benefits, and then threatening people is a sure fire why they keep quiet.
Leeks to the press will now be prolific out of United
Ratcliffe is days away from sending all staff and players at Man U an email demanding they list 5 things they achieved in the last week, with failure to reply taken as a resignation!
This would be bad in any business, but in an industry where young men are given more money than they know what to do with, and the clubs can lose Β£10s of millions on signing a player who fails to match expectations
Itβs obscene
I'm not defending Jim or his Gung Ho approach to cost cutting but fuck me... giving every day staff free lunch is not normal practice. It's ludicrous it was a thing in the first place so cutting it shouldn't be a big deal. Alas, we get the headlines for all you media monkeys.
Does your work feed you lunch? Genuine question. I've worked for multiple companies over 2 decades and, other than working in hospitality many moons ago, have never been provided lunch. As I said, I don't agree with the cuts, they're abhorrent, but this is lazy nonsense, just like your reply!
Agree, it's not right. Players getting paid Β£200,000 /wk isn't right either but it's the beast that we've created as a society. Tbf though, players get fed to control their diets as professional athletes... except for Jamie Vardy who only eats Crisps and drinks Redbull.
Worked at a few places that provided free or subsidised lunch. And by the way the players - those most able to pay for lunch - will still be getting it for free.
Yeah, it's not like they all share the same canteen. It's not Grange Hill. Players get fed a controlled diet as part of their professional athletic diet. I don't agree with the cuts but the reality is Utd will no longer exist in a decade if something doesn't change. This is all on the Glazers!
Itβs impossible for Man Utd to not exist in a decade. The worst case scenario is they go bankrupt, the current owners lose a load of money, and someone else buys it for peanuts.
While it seems petty, and ironic that this comes out just before lunch time, there can't be many businesses left with free staff canteens, surely? I only ever worked anywhere with one in the late 1970's.
To move from everything is free to no canteen at all is unnecessary. Maybe leave it open and ask the staff to pay? Maybe a partial subsidy to soften the blow for staff? Shutting the thing down will save a drop in the ocean for this car crash of a club.

The football team are underperforming and yet there is rarely ever a discussion of footballers (and CEOs) agreeing to reduce their immoral earnings.
Fans tend to have a blind spot when it comes to players even when they forget where they came from.
Rich people don't invest to get the money back, they want to make MORE money.
Jim wants every penny back ASAP and more.
