It's sad because we wanted to believe that Labour would come in and then use their majority to make big changes. There must be many within the party who are unhappy with this. I know that many members are.
So disappointing. Who are all these right wing reform voters? I don't know any, personally as far as I am aware. Everyone I know is as disappointed as I am.
I dread to think who these Reform voters are that are hiding as my neighbours. We used to be a forward thinking accepting country. Starmer is not doing himself any favours, in my view. What a wasted opportunity.
I disagree, we shall see. I don't live in the UK, I only follow the news and try to understand.
I think all or most societies in the West are in a big crisis. I hope Starmer follows the Danish socialdemocrats, also for restricted immigration and not Trump.
This issue has to be dealt with.
If normal parties don't deal with massive immigration, the far right will take over like in Italy, USA, we shall see France and Germany is in danger too.
The extreme right in France don't propose anything that isn't already mainstream government policy in the UK. The only difference is that in France, we call a spade a spade, whilst the UK buries its head in the sand whilst saying "it could never happen here". It already has.
Can someone please explain the difference between this Labour Party, Conservatives and Reform? They sound the same to me. What we surely need is people with skills in health, care and education, in construction to rebuild our neglected infrastructure and to contribute to our culture and arts.
licked trump's ass..
now he burps the same shit smelling like "dogs and cats"?!..
what a cheap "luxury escort"!
just like "President" Trump likes it!..
It's incredible watching some labour voters trying to justify the dog whistle rhetoric just because he wears a red rosette. At the next French election, they'll be berating the extreme right for exactly the same policy proposals and rhetoric. Call it what it is.
“There’s no cost to big business for employing cheap, low-skilled overseas labour,” said Richard Tice, no cost for things like training...
Those supporting open borders are not only racists who would wish to exploit cheap labour to cosset their parents, but - actually - supporters of Reform.
2 Crace also ducks a need for high pay and excellent conditions to attract indigenous care staff. From a refugee family, I back newcomers. Labour must fund more lessons in the UK's native language. The difference lies in one or two speaking foreign words on public transport and no English talked.
1 John Crace? Spot on in his critique at the prime minister's immigration speech. But he omits salient points. Most people value migrants' work in the NHS and other key sectors. The Tories and now Labour, though, have failed to ensure living standards and public services match population growth...
WHY is he doing this? Why doesn’t he develop proper policies of his own? He will lose more votes. Farage & Co are Trumpists - he shouldn’t pander to them!
Not that long ago not only no Labour PM would have spouted this Powelite rhetoric, but no British PM would.
The malign influence of Farage has infected the whole body politic. There's absolutely nobody who has the courage to stand up to him.
Sure. Deal brewing with EU, money for NHS(as opposed to privatising it), money for schools, +7% minimum wage, reform of leasehold and Lords why I can hardly tell the difference!
The problem Labour has is that there are now two mainstream parties to the left of them, the Lib Dems and Greens, who would give us much of the same but without the racism. So why wouldn't I just vote for them instead?
Don't care he used the language of racists after previously shitting all over trans people. Human rights trumps everything and Starmer should know better.
The language he has been using is indefensible. I can only think the immigration figures (released in 3 days) look terrible and he's panicking. But immigration has doubled since Brexit and is politically unsustainable at current levels of around a million a year.
Wonder what the wider Parliamentary Labour Party is feeling at this moment in time? All those new, idealistic, ambitious MPs who surfed the ‘we’re not the Tories’ wave. Suckered by the Change motifs and the no-nonsense platitudes of Starmer and Reeves. Anyone up for a coup?
You don’t beat reform by becoming reform. This sickening selling out of their values because they think will get them more votes, is pathetically embarrassing.
I’m raging. I’ve worked in MH social care for 30 years, I have colleagues from all over the world as locals wouldn’t put up with the crap I do for the wages I get. Punched, spat on, it’s all happened. I’ve had friends work alongside me from all over the world, they leave and the sector is fucked.
Looking from outside Britain, I have been surprised at how I’ll prepared for governing Labour have been since the election. Now it is shocking how little confidence they have in their own agenda that they feel they have to outflank the extreme right. Bizarre and very troubling.
The sarcasm in the article I think makes us feel “smarter” and maybe better. But we need to address the underlying cause. People in Britain are hurting and farage is peddling lies and slop in a new extra racist flavour. We need to start talking to people about real alternatives.

Unfathomable.

700K+ pa is undermining UK labour mkt and feeding right wing resentment.
Employers are choosing cheap foreign labour over investment in home grown skills.
We are denuding developing nations of labour.
Starmer is incapable of arguing a legit case.
