I swear I had no idea what was going on for most of MGS2 when I was a kid. I just enjoyed the gameplay. That final speech about AI went right over my head, only going back to it now does it hit me just how ahead of its time that game was.
Oh for sure. I’ve always said it was really eerie how we got DS about connecting people amidst a global crisis that forced people to be isolated from each other. Then literally months later we’re in our first COVID lockdown and have literal “porters”/delivery drivers keeping us all sane at home.
Metal Gear Solid is a game that I'm really glad I played as an adult just because, with how my tastes and approaches to gaming have changed over time, I'm not sure I'd have appreciated it as much if I'd played it in my youth
Like even past me getting better at games I don't think kid me would've been able to appreciate MGS as a piece of art beyond entertainment, while nowadays I view it as one of the most shining examples of everything games can be as an artform.

Then I discovered Wagner, and Metal Gear is just on another level. 😂
As I got older I was able to appreciate it more and more with each playthrough and now it's like ingrained in my brained 🤣
Maybe it's just because I've played them so much over the years but I find it much easier to follow now compared to when I was a kid
Would love to try out the remake of 3 to see if I can finally click with it, especially now I've played a Kojima game.
I guess that's what happens when you suddenly have a successful game on your hands and now have to make a sequel you didn't plan for.
