I had a work assignment in Austin for a year and definitely would never live there again. Climate issues, cost of living, awful traffic, geographic isolation, gun laws, rigged politics, and more recently, forced gestation and anti-women healthcare, fuck that. Who wants to raise a family in TX …
It's not entirely. The natural beauty of Texas can be breathtaking. Still, I would never, ever live anywhere in Texas other than my hometown of #Austin. And there was a time, when I was very young, that it had one of the most progressive Governors ever - Ann Richards. Maybe there's hope...
Yes, Texas does have a lot of natural beauty. I've actually spent a lot of time there visiting relatives. But the politics, ugh. And the Summer heat, I would melt. And I remember Ann Richards too. Thanks for your reply.

"Reza Khosravi, a startup founder, relocated in 2021 from San Francisco ... Innovation and diversity are deeply ingrained in Silicon Valley culture, he said, adding, “I did not find that in Austin.” " - that basically means he was harassed for his skin colour 🙄
Life is always going to center around big cities, always has, always will. Suburbs are dead zones meant to pull people away from the cities. And some of those are now cities themselves, except they’ve remained homogenous suburbs. Republicans know this, but they rep the burbs, so they condemn cities.
Native of Austin here. For too long, the elected "leaders" of Texas have neglected to take care of people here. Low wages, poor healthcare, neglected public schools, poor public transportation/infrastructure. I knew it would catch up to them. Shame on the Republicans who have run Texas for 30+ yrs.
The city of Austin has always concentrated much more on marketing itself to out-of-towners than making it a better place to live. It's sad because it's a sweet little city that got noticeably worse the last 20yrs. Pre 2010 it was legitimately way better.
It's fine with me. We never had the infrastructure for all these people, nor the water. All the little funky small towns in central Texas are suffering too.
And Ausin isn't weird anymore. 😢
