I have worked in pharma, and here’s the nuance. Big pharma makes a lot of overpriced drugs w/ limited efficacy and a lot of side effects. But that’s not true of pharma’s vaccines and antibiotics—these are the true successes of pharma: highly effective, saving untold millions of lives, low in cost.
I hate how these guys force me into a stance of defending institutions that need hard reforms. I hate the current system, but it is preferable to the counter reformation they are shoving down our collective throats.
I'm alive because of big pharma. The problem is the lack of price regulation, the revolving door with the FDA, etc., not the actual R&D, much of it subsidized by us. I suggest we fund all of the R&D and cut the corporate monsters out of the process.
The story is very complicated but my first husband is dead arguable because of big pharma. That’s the rub, right? We need them and we also need them to be better than they are.
And meanwhile RFK is wrecking all of it and going to kill so many people.
