spotifyd (https://github.com/Spotifyd/spotifyd) is technically an option, it can be installed and controlled using the web client with the stream quality of the native app.
However, it would be best to switch streaming services as Spotify's x86 version is still not very friendly to the Linux community.
Made the switch to Amazon Music years ago. Lossless file streaming and less than 500mb of RAM used...and they pay artists better. Just waiting until Tidal gets their shit together lol
I don’t have a clue what this means but if you can also port people away from Canadian conservative captured shopify to anywhere else, you’ll be doing god’s work.*
*I’m certain these two things have nothing in common but I’m just trying to manifest over here!
Interesting, I get why offline mode adds value but never thought someone who is on a fixed connected device would prioritise offline mode, I thought that was for mobiles or devices that can lose network. Fair enough.
The web client actually works better on Linux in some ways... at least last time I tried it, the x86_64 native client didn't support input methods on Linux so it's impossible to search for Japanese/Chinese/Korean songs and artists!
Would you be able to build a decent simple MP3/wav file library system then because I think that's what we really need. I'm crying out for the iTunes of the past where you had some control over things! I make my own audio and iTunes changes have completely ruined my digital libraries more than once.
They mention it elsewhere but basically offline caching since Spotify servers go down frequently apparently
and also it used 1gb of ram or smthn on web?!
spotify's DRM "security posture" is also really weak in general, they don't care about piracy (and pirates don't care either because higher bitrates are available elsewhere)

I can get mine to get above 2 gigs easily
But that’s a whole browser not “just” a music client
Or, at least, the average person doesn’t expect their music client to be a whole browser, too 🫣

Just kidding, sorry, I feel your pain (bad discord deb, teams dropped support, no whatsapp gui for linux etc)

there's no inherent reason the web client should suck more than "native" (which is actually CEF), I guess it's not a priority for them
so I don't have to hear that fucking Happy song one more god damn time.
if I hear it again I may never be happy again.
regardless why would you need the native version
