This is a cost-down model. Unless you really want some specific feature of it, it's probably better to wait for the next mainstream model that uses it.

off the top of my head, they don't release firmware for their SoCs to developers so android custom ROM support is terrible and unlocking the bootloader is less reliable than on phones with Qualcomm SoCs

the MT7922 wifi card is in many recent Asus laptops and it's a terrible card

also they were sued over copying other companies' ICs though i think that is not the case today

there's some things with their ARM SoCs that hamper functionality but that isn't mediatek's fault and more qualcomm's fault because apps like google camera have been made to work with qualcomm/google socs and even ports suffer from that decision

It will be interesting to see what happens. Could be a big W or L. Apple Silicon has some pretty major hardware level vulnerabilities.

I think the only win will be for Apple, since these devices are now running on completely proprietary hardware, meaning once they EOL the device, it’s a brick.

they do have a bunch of side-channel vulns, but who doesn't these days? the core(s) in the modem won't be perf-oriented (like SEP), so unlikely to have similar sidechannels

According to iPhone 16e tech specs, it supports GSM/EDGE (2G), UMTS/HSPA+ (3G), gigabit LTE (4G), and sub-6GHz 5G.

It doesn't support DC-HSDPA (3.5G?), or mmWave 5G.
