Today in 1712, Admiral Luc Urbain du Bouëxic, comte de Guichen, is born. He will command French fleets at the first battle of Ushant in 1778 and Martinique in 1781. Dying in 1790, he was commemorated by the rather ugly cruiser bearing his name in 1898.
