First place she went wrong was answering an unknown phone number. If it's a job recruiter, doctor's office or something legit they'll leave a voicemail. Your friends/family will either call back in a few minutes or send a follow up text. Let that phone ring!

Only once have I answered a "suspicious" call. After sending it to voicemail five times, I finally answered to curse the caller out. It was a delivery driver who couldn't find my house. Even then, I refused to tell them her I was at home. I went into the room and whispered as she left the package. 🤣

I wish I could get this concept through my 80 year old mom’s head. Particularly answering unknown numbers. Scammers know many older folks will answer no matter how many times they’re told not to.

When Mom was alive, she stopped everything for the phone, no matter how many times I told her to only answer if she knew who was calling. Then she'd get SO pissed that it was a computer, as though she'd been personally targeted vs a random number on a list. Dad, thankfully, gets it and won't answer.

Every once in awhile I will answer the phone when I know it is a scammer, lead them on a bit then tell them exactly what I think of them and what they should do But only when I am feeling angry and they give me a way to let it out without hurting anyone I dont care about hurting feelings of scammers
