I try really hard not to fall into conspiracy theories. I really do. But I would not be surprised if we learn in 20 years that the CIA ran a psy-op in the 2010s to render the phrases "Geneva convention" and "war crimes" meaningless among Gen Z.

I think the majority of it stems from Bush jr.'s No Child Left Behind and the shift to teaching towards aptitude tests.
By the time I was in high school there were no civics classes left when they used to be prevalent. Anything that wasn’t math, science, writing, and reading were pushed aside 1/?
Done by making life skill classes seem unimportant compared to all STEM all the time. We weren't taught for the long term because once the test was done we didn't need 70% of the info anymore, or needed to dump a lot of it to make room for the info on the next test 3/3
Its horrible to say but I don't think it was a psy-op per se, merely a continuation of the logic established with Guantanamo and torture is fine for us really cause they are horrible people (though they really weren't and aren't).

Now, to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised about any CIA conspiracy really, so all of that could have been moved along by them for all i know.
But I definitely think a lot of damage was 2/3
