There are some very special circumstances in which law enforcement officers might reasonably wear a mask to protect their identity. Handling lawful protesters isn’t one of them.

I remember in Iraq during OIF III when we wished we could wear face protection against the dust but we were order not to so we would not look like marauders. Feels a lot like the US Army has far better standards than LEO.
