If you trace the outline of your fingers with your opposite hand, slowly and intentionally, you activate calming sensory pathways in the brain. Repetitive touch helps regulate the amygdala, your brain’s alarm system. Try it.

My kiddo learned the simplified version of this in elementary school. The counselor called it "mountains and valleys" and had the kiddo trace their hands while taking calming breaths when they were panicked. Helped A LOT.
An anatomist who does kink taught me that light pressure around the wrist also induces calmness (and even drowsiness in some people). One can do it by holding one's own wrist with one's other hand.
