It's the dopamine hit of optimization. Doesn't really matter if that optimization is useful.
What I'm personally scared of is chording and I'll do (way too) much to avoid it

ctrl-c isn't particularly nasty if you map caps lock to ctrl but i have no clue how people do it the regular way without destroying their wrists
