After the iconic "moon towers" in Austin were erected in 1895, $2.50 was the daily salary of the city’s first “tower trimmer." The trimmer would ascend all 31 original towers every day to maintain and replace the arc light lamps’ carbon rods. The tower shown here is still at 9th and Guadalupe.
