To be clear, this is on purchasing a home, and doesn’t apply to those who already have one. Don’t know if those who are residents already would be included. And it applies to all non EU countries.
What I meant was that it wouldn’t impose a tax of 100% on those non-EU residents who already own a home in Spain, only new purchasers. The BBC link is the most reliable I can find with no paywall (at least not here)
Well that’s only what you would expect them to do, isn’t it? AirBNB screws the home ownership market everywhere and it should never have been allowed to grow from renting a room in your home to renting out entire properties. And that is true everywhere, not just Spain.
I’m not making a point. I am simply clarifying that this tax would apply to new purchases of property by people fell outside the EU. Those who already own one won’t be affected (though it is not clear if they would if they sold and bought a different one).

Britons would not be NON EU Nationals now.
It's unclear whether Sanchez's property tax bill will go through. But it's part of a wider initiative against non-EU property owners in Spain.
Quite a few put their properties up on Airbnb to generate income when they cannot be there.
